Gallery

We are a small Group of enthusiastic members who meet Tuesday evenings from 8pm - 10pm. during school term time at Batford Methodist Church Hall, Lower Luton Road, Harpenden.

We are always delighted to welcome new members. Instruction will be given to those new to the art/craft and helpful advice exchanged with people already practising.

From time to time the group undertakes a project of some description and all members take some part in its completion. For example, we have made a draughts/chess table (donated to a local hospice), designed and created marquetry panels to a member’s tool box (approximately 3ft by 2ft – some tool box!) and crafted tile 37 of the Millennium Mural.

Examples of some of the members' work are shown in the picture gallery below. Note that the miniatures are less than 12 square inches in face area.

As a non-profit making concern, subscriptions remain at £10 per term and a starter pack can be provided for new members. Don’t expect to do a masterpiece on your first visit - that will come later!

The group also offers tuition aimed at youngsters wishing to do Marquetry for the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. Topics covered include the history of marquetry, modern veneer manufacture and various finishing techniques as well as the all important ‘hands on’ craft itself. If you, or your school are interested in such a course, please make contact as soon as possible.
