AWARDS

Awards are defined as the winners of 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each competition class together with recipients of a Very Highly Commended certificate. In addition, a number of exhibits may be nominated for a Highly Commended certificate.
Additional awards or citations can be made or withheld at the discretion of the judges, but only after consultation with the President.

Awarded for the best entry in the Beginner's Class
The Jack Fletcher Trophy
Awarded for the best entry in the Secondary Class
The Verulam Cup
Awarded to the best entry in the Intermediate Class
The Charles Good Cup
Awarded to the best entry in the Advanced Class
The Harold Cuthbertson Cup
Awarded to the best entry in the Premier Class
The Richard Shellard Challenge Cup
Awarded to the best entry in the Advanced Miniatures Class
The Peggy & Byron Shellard Cup
Awarded to the best entry in the Beginner's Miniatures Class
The Harold Tarr Vase
Awarded to the best entry in the Advanced Applied Class
The Jim Jelley Trophy
Awarded to the best entry in the Beginner's Applied Class
The Ron Page Trophy
Awarded to the best entry in the Miniature Applied Class
The Alf Murtell Cup
Awarded to the best entry in the Three Veneers Class
The Austin Cup
Awarded to the best entry in the Junior Class

SPECIAL AWARDS

The same exhibit may only win each of these awards once. Special award winners will hold the award for one year and will receive a momento to keep, with the exception of the Phil Jewel Award winner who retains the awarded medal.

The Rosebowl
Awarded to the best entry in the competition. In addition the winner will, if not already a premier marquetarian, be promoted directly to Class 5, designated a Fellow of the Marquetry Society and receive a diploma.
The Wendy Gibbons Vase
Awarded for the best entry in Classes 1, 2 and 3 according to merit and the rules governing those classes.
The Walter Dolly Salver
Awarded for the best piece of work in the competitive classes by an Independent Member. The earlier restriction preventing previous winners of the award from receiving it a second or third time has now been overturned - and every entry in the Independents class is now eligible for achieving this award.
The Artistic Merit Cup

Awarded to the best piece of work that conforms to the Marquetry Society's definition of a 'Creative Competition'

DEFINITION: 'Pictures where the design / composition is the work of the maker. Minor elements from other work may be used but the overall design must be original'. Changes made to existing works must not be submitted for this award.

Jack Byrne Cup
Awarded for the best piece of geometrical marquetry in the competition classes.
The H. Pedder Trophy
Awarded for the best piece of portraiture work in the competition classes. This award will go to an exhibit whose central theme is the likeness to a real person. This is not to say that the person necessarily needs to be famous or likely to be known by everybody. Entrants should be aware that a photograph, drawing or facsimile of the source material that the exhibit is based upon must be included with any entry submitted for this award.
ThePhil Jewel Award
Awarded to the exhibit most liked by a non-marquetarian member of the public appointed by the host group.
The Art Veneers Cup
Awarded to the peice of marquetry, which, in the judges opinion, uses the veneer to the best overall effect.
The Ron Gibbons Cup
Awarded to the best entry in Classes 6A, 6B and 7C.
The Eddie Leader Cup for the
'The Peoples Choice Award'
Awarded for the exhibit, in classes 1 through 9 only, that is most liked by visitors to the exhibition, determined by a visitor voting slip ballot. The winning exhibit will be named when the exhibition has closed and all valid voting slips have been counted. In the event of a tie, one voting slip from each of the tied exhibits will be entered into a closed draw, a single ticket being drawn to determine the winner.

INTER-GROUP CHALLENGE SHIELD

Points will be awarded to award winning Group members according to the following schedule; and the Shield will be awarded to the Group with the highest number of points. In the event of a tie, the Shield will be awarded to whichever Group has the highest number of first awards. The winning group will hold the Shield for one year.

THE POINTS SCHEDULE
1st in any class.............................................5 points
2nd in any class............................................4 points
3rd in any class.............................................3 points
Very Highly Commended.............................2 points
Highly Commended......................................1 point

The Rosebowl, Wendy Gibbons Vase, Artistic Merit Cup, Jack Byrne Cup, Art Veneers Cup, H. Pedder Trophy, and Ron Gibbons Cup winners will be awarded one extra point.

THE COMPETITION CLASSES

Class 1 is Beginner's  level (one of their first 4 pictures)

Class 2 is Secondary  level

Class 3 is Intermediate  level

Class 4 is Advanced  level

Class 5 is Premier  level

Class 6A is Advanced  Miniatures (less than 12 square inches)

Class 6B Beginner's  Miniatures

Class 7A Advanced  Applied (a suitable article that has had a veneer arrangement applied to it in a pictorial or geometric fashion, such as a table or cabinet, games board etc, )

Class 7B Beginner's Applied

Class 7C Miniature Applied (as above except that it must fit inside a box measuring 4 x 3 x 3 inches unless it is a non marquetry accessory)

Class 8 Three Veneers (a picture made from pieces cut from 3 leaves of veneer which are not treated or dyed in any way, other than sand scorching, once they have been cut from those leaves)

Class 9 Junior (pictures by members under 18 years of age)

Class 10 Exhibition Only (pictures not in the competitive classes)

Class 10A Exhibition Only - Photographs (photographs of any marquetry by marquetarians living outside the United Kingdom)
