Our January 2020 update brings you an interesting marquetry picture that, even with our considerable marquetry knowledge, we are not able to attribute a maker to - can you help here?. |
Our January 2020 update brings you a very interesting marquetry picture submitted to us for information regarding the maker by the owner Mark Griffin. This appears to be an interpretation of the traditional music theme we often see in the medium of marquetry or wood inlay if you prefer. The orientation we present it here is in the portrait mode, but we feel it may be more correctly representational when turned by 90 degrees to the right in landscape mode. The eliptical decoration surrounding the musical instruments is a very nice twist to the standard presentation of this subject. It shows a steady hand and a good feeling for artistic appeal. There is some fading of the original colours, which suggests that it may well have been displayed in direct sunlight for a period of time in its existence. Such fading happens a lot with veneer natural colour due to the bleaching effect of ultra violet light which is a natural element of pure direct sunlight. If you can supply any information about this picture, we would love to hear from you. Thanks in advance for your help. |
